There is an interesting legend about how the city of Br\u010dko got its name. In addition to today's name Br\u010dko, three other names are mentioned in written sources - Barkaz, Br\u010dki and Br\u010dka. Barkaz is mentioned in the first written source \"Charter of the Hungarian King Sigismund\" from 1422. In addition to the official name, the same variant is also mentioned in 1725 (BERCZKO), as well as by Filip Vi\u0161nji\u0107, who is originally from neighboring Bijeljina, and from whom Vuk Karad\u017ei\u0107 took it and wrote it in his dictionary. The name \"Br\u010dki\" was mentioned at the beginning of the 17th century and was just as widespread as \"Br\u010dko\".<\/div>\r\n \r\n \r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In written sources, it is stated that both forms often appeared, which is confirmed by the dictionary entry of the Yugoslav Academy, in which there is also a remark that the wrong feminine name \"Br\u010dka\" was also used. However, in the Chronicle of the Brcana parish, which was compiled by the archbishop and parish priest Rajko Sofrenovi\u0107, this name is not only not wrong, on the contrary, it is most often cited in old documents, and an example of one of them is given, Gerhard Mercator's map on which the name \" Barka\". That name exactly corresponds to the original settlement \"Palanka\".<\/div>\r\n \r\n \r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

During the Austro-Hungarian administration in 1878, the feminine form of the name was the official name, more precisely \"Novi Br\u010dka\". The folk interpretation of the names mentioned in the Chronicle is very interesting. On the banks of the Sava, east of Br\u010dko, near the present-day village of Brezovo Polje, there are walls that the people call \"Naki\u0107's tower\" and which, according to tradition, belonged to the castle of the rich and powerful bey Naki\u0107, while there was only a scaffolding in the place where Br\u010dko is now.<\/div>\r\n \r\n \r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Skeld\u017eija had a beautiful daughter with whom Bey Naki\u0107 fell in love. He would often observe her bathing in the Sava through binoculars from the tower, and when he saw her, he would cheerfully exclaim \"There's a br\u010dka!\". So the people called the place where that girl bathed \"Br\u010dka\", and later that name was transferred to the kasaba that developed.\nBr\u010dko was almost completely burned down in 1852. It is most likely that Br\u010dko was founded by the Turks as a \"Palanka\", i.e. as a military-police station for the protection of the Sava waterway, and its position was probably the reason for choosing the place for that palanquin.<\/div>\r\n \r\n \r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Br\u010dko District of BiH is geographically positioned in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the right bank of the Sava River. It is located on the tri-border of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia and is an important crossroads of national and international roads from east to west and from north to south. It occupies an area of \u200b\u200b493.3 km2, which represents less than 1% of the total area of \u200b\u200bBosnia and Herzegovina (51,129.00 km2), and the area of \u200b\u200bthe central city area is 183.00 km2.<\/p>

Positioned in this way, Br\u010dko has a favorable tourist-geographical position by connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina with Western and Southeastern Europe and the Danube countries.<\/p>

As an important hub of key roads in the directions east-west and north-south, Br\u010dko represents a rare multimodal transport hub (roads, navigable river Sava, railway) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it has access to Croatia and Central Europe, but also access to the river Sava, and further along the Danube to Western and Eastern Europe.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Thus, the spatial position of Br\u010dko determines the connection of its wider hinterland and gravity area with other regions in Central and Eastern Europe, and the city of Br\u010dko is only 30 kilometers away from the international road of Pan-European Corridor 10 (Belgrade-Zagreb highway). This highway (E70) is defined by the route from Salzburg (Austria) to Thessaloniki (Greece) with a characteristic of high frequency of traffic throughout the year where a significant number of passengers are transported, which enables a good connection of the Br\u010dko District of BiH with touristic emission markets.<\/p>\n

The Br\u010dko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located on the navigable part of the Sava River, and the port of Br\u010dko is the largest port in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The operational coast of the port is 150 m long, and the average width is 15 meters. The Sava River is navigable within Br\u010dko District for a length of 44 kilometers – for vessels with a draft of up to two and a half meters, navigation is possible for 260 days, and during low water levels it is navigable for vessels with a smaller draft.<\/p>\n

Br\u010dko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina is connected to the Danube by the Sava River, through which to all of Europe, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, and via the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

Br\u010dko Port has traditionally served as a port for transshipment of bulk cargo and does not have a passenger terminal, although every year more and more cruise ships sail into Br\u010dko District of BiH, which opens up opportunities for the development of river and nautical tourism. It represents a significant infrastructural facility, which could be important in improving traffic availability, which could intensify the tourism development of the Br\u010dko District of BiH, considering the plans to extend the navigability of the river to Bre\u017eice in Slovenia (the waterway of the Sava River would increase by about 100 kilometers). .<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Centuries ago, different cultures and traditions were intertwined in Br\u010dko, civilizations alternated: Illyrian, ancient, Roman, Byzantine, Slavic traditions, but also adopted customs that were inherited and preserved to this day through the activities of cultural and artistic societies, associations and institutions from areas of culture.<\/p>\n

Cultural-historical heritage is part of the identity of a certain area, but in modern systems it is also seen as a strong driver of economic development and tourist offer. Culture, understood in the broadest sense, today represents an important content of tourism in many developed countries. Experts believe that in the period ahead, the future of tourism is in the offer based on all segments of culture, since what is autochthonous, original and unique always represents an attractive force and attraction. This is the reason why many countries today invest significant resources in culture and cultural heritage, thus strengthening their overall tourism capacities.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
