City Museum

The history of the Museum in Brčko District dates back to 1981. year, when the idea of ​​forming the first archeological exhibition appeared within the “Rizah Štetić” Gallery. The idea was realized in December 1982. year, and the first exhibition “Archaeological finds in the area of ​​Brčko and its surroundings” was opened. Not long after, in April 1986. In 2008, the Center for Culture and Education of the Repatriates of the RJ Workers’ University “Pero Ćuskić” opens a permanent exhibition entitled “Archaeological-ethnographic past of Brčko and its surroundings”. This type of museum activity operated until the 1990s. century.

After the establishment of Brčko District, there was no tendency to open new museum premises. The material, which was an integral part of the installation from the 80s and 90s, remained sealed in the premises of the City Hall in Brcko, and then in the Šipada building. During 2017 Ethno-archaeological collection Museum was established within the Department for Economic Development, Sport and Culture, Sub-Department for Sport, Culture and Tourism.

Ethno-archaeological collection The museum is located in the “Šipada” building and currently operates within the Government Subdivision for Tourism, Culture and Sports. During 2018 The first temporary exhibition entitled “From seed to canvas” was opened and officially marked the beginning of the Museum’s work for visitors. During the year, reconnaissance of the terrain, procurement of materials from citizens, inventory of old and new materials, as well as conservation and restoration works were carried out. In February 2019 The Days of Chinese Culture were held in the Brčko District Museum, and the exhibition was open to visitors for a month. During the summer months, exhibits were displayed in the Museum as part of the guest exhibition “Nemanjići – the birth of a kingdom”, which attracted a large number of interested citizens. Not long after, the Museum provided an opportunity to set up the Exhibition “New Life of an Old Oak” by Ivo Jelušić. The townspeople had the opportunity to see replicas of ceramic bowls of the Kostola culture made of ebony.

During July 2021 The first natural history exhibition was opened in the Brčko District Museum. It was about a natural history exhibit related to fossils and skeletal remains of extinct animals that lived in the Ice Age. As part of the Museum Night 2022. In 2008, the museum opened an ethnological exhibit called “From seed to sofre”. The exhibition attracted a lot of interest from primary and secondary schools from the Brčko area. The exhibition is currently open in the museum, and visitors have the opportunity to visit it every weekday.

In addition to the current exhibition, the Museum also carries out other activities. Among them, we can single out workshops for children, organized for the Night of the Museum, Summer School of Archaeology, etc. In addition, during the month of March, the Museum carried out the project “Archaeology in the service of tourism” together with the students of the School of Economics, majoring in Tourism Technicians.

In addition to all the aforementioned activities, the Museum also carries out activities for the preparation of the permanent exhibition, which includes the acquisition and preparation of materials, reconnaissance of the terrain and registration of new locations. In addition, as part of its activities, it also organizes the promotion of scientific publications in the field of history and archaeology.
