Petkovača Picnic Area

The nursery and picnic area “Petkovača” are located in the countryside of the village of Brezovo Polje between the hamlets of Brezovo Polje and Bukovica Donja. The locality is known as the “Petkovača” nursery and includes a complex of forests, forest land, agricultural land, supporting facilities and road communications.

The site is located on the Posavina diluvial terrace at an altitude of 102.8 to 117 meters. The terrain is mostly flat except for the banks of the Jezerca stream and its (occasional) tributaries. This area has a moderately continental climate with significant continentality, which is reflected as a Pannonian component.

The main watercourse is the Jezerac stream, which rises at the southern end of the complex and forms its eastern edge. The embankment of the Donja Bukovica – Brezovo Polje road blocked the stream, which largely expanded it into a reservoir that was used multiple times for the needs of nurseries and fisheries.

This area belongs to the zone of sedge and common hornbeam forests with narrow strips of sedge flood forest on the swampiest parts of the black alder forest, and willow and poplar forests on the banks.

The “Petkovača” complex was built in 1975. years. Since 1980 year, after the implementation of the investment program for the expansion of activities, the complex also acquired supporting facilities and infrastructure. Since then, in addition to forestry, agricultural production has also been carried out, and pigs and sheep were raised as part of animal husbandry.

Since 2004, the “Petkovača” complex has been operating within the Public Enterprise “Šume RS” ad, Sokolac, Center for Seed and Nursery Production, Doboj.
