Petkovača plant nursery and picnic area
The Petkovača plant nursery and picnic area is located in the area of Brezovo Polje village, between the settlements of Brezovo Polje and Bukovica Donja. The site, known as the “Petkovača” plant nursery, covers a complex of forests, forest land, agricultural land, supporting facilities and road infrastructure. The locality is situated on a Posavina diluvial terrace, at an altitude ranging from 102.8 to 117 metres above sea level. The terrain is mostly flat, except for the banks of the Jezerac stream and its occasional tributaries.
The area has a moderate continental climate with well-defined continental characteristics, reflected in its Pannonian features. The main watercourse is the Jezerac stream, which rises at the southern edge of the complex and forms its eastern boundary. By the construction of the Donja Bukovica – Brezovo Polje road embankment, the stream was dammed, creating an accumulation that has been used for the needs of the plant nursery and fish farming. This area belongs to the zone of pedunculate oak and common hornbeam forests, with narrow strips of floodplain pedunculate oak forest in the wettest parts of the black alder forest. Along the banks, there are willow and poplar forests.
The Petkovača complex was established in 1975. Since 1980, following an investment programme aimed at expanding activities, the complex has been enriched with additional facilities and infrastructure. Since then, alongside forestry, agricultural production has also been carried out, as well as the breeding of pigs and sheep as part of livestock farming.
