The Monument to the Members of the 108th Infantry Brigade of the HVO is a memorial monument dedicated to soldiers who lost their lives in the Brčko area. It was built in 2011 and officially unveiled in 2012. The monument was erected by members of the HVO association from Brčko, with financial support from the Government of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The author of the monument is academic sculptor Anto Jurkić.
The conceptual design of the monument is based on three primary architectural elements: the triangle, the square, and the circle, symbolizing the Christian Trinity – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – the foundation of the Croatian people’s faith.
The portal of the monument represents the transition into another dimension, the sphere symbolizes eternity and perfection, while the openings within the sphere form a circle – a symbol of suffering, but also of resurrection. The ends of these openings are finished with glass cubes that evoke elements of the historical Croatian coat of arms.
This monument is a lasting tribute to the fallen members of the 108th Brigade, expressing deep respect, encouraging reflection, and conveying a timeless message. With its simple form, it symbolizes Croatian reality and tradition, and affirms the idea of tolerance and a shared future for the three peoples who share this space.
