International Theatre Meetings of Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina

International theater meetings of Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Theatre Meetings in Brčko were established more than 50 years ago. Throughout their half-century tradition, the Meetings have evolved in terms of organisation rules and regulations, production concepts, evaluation and award structures, as well as the selection process for participating performances.

In the beginning, the event was known as the Meetings of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s theatres, focused on domestic dramatic works. Later, it developed into the Meetings of BH theatres with international participation, featuring performances based on texts written by authors from Bosnia and Herzegovina or by authors writing in one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Today, the event is widely recognised as the International Theatre Meetings, where theatres from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad can participate with high-quality productions regardless of the language in which the play was written or performed, provided that the performance is translated or subtitled into one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The vision of the Meetings is to promote artistic freedom, internationalisation and the opening of new spaces for theatre art, where diverse theatre projects can be presented while ensuring equal artistic competition for all participants.

During the Meetings, audiences can enjoy eight main competition performances, a closing guest performance, numerous children’s plays, and a diverse accompanying programme that includes exhibitions, book promotions and other cultural events.
